EPS Events (Event and Production Services UK Ltd) travelled to Bodmin in Cornwall for the latest Glow in the Park fun run on Saturday 15th October 2016. The event was held at Boconocc House and Gardens, which is a country estate nestled in woodland, as we drove along the two miles of private road to get to the magnificent mansion house we had the pleasure of seeing the wild deer, pheasants and partridges.
The 1,200 runners arrived at this unique setting that is used as a magical and exclusive wedding venue and conference centre with self catering accommodation for up to 40 guests. The Fortescue family spent 12 years restoring the dilapidated mansion house to its former glory after it had been uninhabited since the 1950’s. Their hard work and dedication was recognised in 2012 when they were awarded the Historic Houses Association/Sotheby’s Restoration Award along with the Georgian Group Architectural Award for the restoration of a Country Mansion.
The hidden beauty of Boconnoc estate has been used for numerous film locations including Indian Bride, Happiness Unbridled, The Three Musketeers and the BBC 2 production of Daphne, to name just a few.
As with the previous Glow in the Park events this one in Cornwall attracted a mixture of keen runners, novice runners, groups of friends and a lot of families with children. They were all dressed up in their fluorescent outfits, high viz jackets, neon face paint and glow sticks to enjoy the two lap course that took them through the six different zones.
One of the most popular zones was the Foam Zone, Tim Hughes who provided a very entertaining commentary for the race spoke to people who had completed the course and most of them said their favourite was making their way through the fluffy foam.
Other zones were the Hot & Cold Zone were runners felt the blasts of freezing cold air and the heat of the red hot flames, they enjoyed the spiralling lights in the Time Tunnel, got plastered with UV gunge in the Paint Blast Zone, they stepped back in time with the golden oldies and pulsating light show in the Retro Zone, and they glowed with the UV lights, lasers and smoke effects in the Fluorescent Park Zone.
At the end of the run athletes cooled down and got their breath back in the historic court yard, where they could enjoy some light refreshments and food while listening to a live band, Souled Out. There where also souvenirs available for the runners to have some memorabilia of their achievements at the Glow in the Park event.
EPS Events supplied our EV (Electro-Voice) high performance loudspeakers for the PA at the start/finish area. We used a combination of the ZX 12” & 15” speakers placed by the start line and also in the court yard. The speakers provided a loud and clear sound for the crowds to hear the music and also the commentary from Tim Hughes, who entertained and interviewed the runners. He used our professional Sennheiser radio mic with booster antenna that allowed him to wonder around a large area and chat with the athletes prior to the race and also after they had finished.
The next Glow in the Park fun run is on 28th October 2016 at Heaton Park, Manchester. For further details and to take part yourself you can enter at www.glowinthepark.co.uk.
